Hempseat, 2022
Lukas Keller and his Master's thesis ‘RE\CONSIDER BIOCOMPOSITES System-based product development’, was the main influence for this projects made from Hempstrings. He dealt intensively with natural fibre composites and biocomposites. This gave us the ideal support to produce our own biopolymer. To do this, we mixed VINEGAR, VINEGAR STARCH and GLYZERINE and then heated it up. With constant stirring, the mixture finally solidifies and can now be mixed with the hemp fibre. Pia Rothermund, Raphael Rustige and I decided to use the longest possible fibre sections. This allowed us to obtain large areas of biocondensate.
For our prototype, we arranged these in an arc-shaped plane. To ensure greater stability, we reinforced the curvature with a stiffener.
The seat was then made from hemp cords that were woven together to form a surface.
The resulting prototype was intended to test the limits of the material's load-bearing capacity.
